Artist's Statement
I am a storyteller using a variety of materials to help in the storytelling process. The stories I tell are stories of the human condition. Wood, stone, metal, and ceramic all lend varying permanence, textures, colors, and differing nuances to each story. Some materials may be in found objects, lending to the story, and the story becomes richer because of the differing viewpoints contributed by the differing materials.
My work is often kinetic and invites human interaction. The viewer becomes a participant. It is particularly rewarding when the interaction is shared by more than one person, such as a parent with a child, or an experience among friends. In a shared interaction, the experience results in either a debate or consensus, and the viewers become participants together. I seek to create sculpture that is engaging for young and old alike.
