Nancy Cohen Israel, owner of Art à la Carte, is a Dallas-based art historian, art educator and writer. Since 1997, Nancy has been conducting art tours throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area and beyond. For 15 years, she organized “Second Saturdays”, a series of tours designed to bring art enthusiasts into local artists’ studios, private collections and other interesting art spaces. She has also organized trips around the state to visit the dynamic contemporary scenes in places such as Marfa and San Antonio.
Additionally, Nancy lectures to private groups and teaches a variety of art history courses in the Dallas area. For 20 years, she was an instructor through Southern Methodist University’s Continuing and Professional Education program (CAPE). She is currently a lecturer at the Meadows Museum.
Nancy is also a regular contributor to Patron and art ltd. magazines.
Locally, she has been a contributing writer to FD Luxe and Arts + Culture. Her work been published nationally in Lilith and on More.com.
Nancy has served as a juror and/or curator for exhibitions such as Craighead-Green’s New Texas Talent, the Creative Art Center’s Art in the City, University of Dallas’ Evolution: New Work by Denise Brown, Norman Kary and Ellen Tuchman, University of Texas at Arlington’s Found Elements, and the Texas Sculpture Association’s Bare Essentials, among others.
Nancy graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities, concentrating on Late Medieval art and literature in Northern Europe. She earned her Master of Arts Degree in Art History from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where her area of concentration was Renaissance painting. While still in graduate school, she worked as an exhibition coordinator at The Trust for Museum Exhibitions, a non-profit organization devoted to organizing international traveling art exhibitions.
In 1991, Nancy returned to Dallas as the McDermott Intern in Education at the Dallas Museum of Art. Her introduction to the contemporary art world came during a four-year stint as the director of the Edith Baker Gallery.
