My love of textiles started early. At age 9 I took a sewing class at the Singer store, although my first sewing machine was a Kenmore from Sears. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in biological science from Smith College, an M.D. from University of Texas at Houston and have practiced medicine for over 30 years. I am a member of Dallas Quilters Guild and the International Quilt Association, through which I have attended workshops with nationally known quilters, design and fabric artists. My crafts feature handwork, machine piecing and quilting, embroidery and embellishment. Although I use traditional quilting patterns, many of my works are original designs where color, texture, and balance are as important as meaning.
Temple Emanu-El of Dallas commissioned me to design and make a special tallit, or prayer shawl, which is used in services of healing. I have specially made challah covers for the traditional braided Sabbath bread. My work brings me renewal and peace and hopefully, happiness and enjoyment to others.
